As its name may indicate, the purpose of such a machine is to place SMD components on PCBs automatically.

The goal of this technological expedition is to increase the speed and consistency of soldering SMD components on blank PCB as it is currently a laborious process in our lab. This project also seeks to increase our design possibilities by enabling the incorporation of smaller SMD components that are now impractical to work with by hand.

To do so, we will use the NEODEN YY1 pick-and-place machine, which can automatically place SMD components on an empty PCB with great speed. Indeed, this machine has been designed to be as fast and practical as possible, with the incorporation of specific features such as a double nozzle, automatic nozzle changer, real-time display of working status, bad placement detection, and more.

This project is part of a larger objective, which is to automatize the entire process of making PCBs. Indeed, this machine can handle only one part of this complex process. However, by combining it with other existing technological expeditions, we might be able to make the entire process automatic.
